FLAXMAN
PLAQUE This is somewhat typical of the Jasperware for which Josiah
Wedgewood was famous above all else. The slightly translucent
stoneware was variously coloured - blue and green were succesful
as were lilac and yellow later on.One of Flaxman's later works
for Wedgewood ( he left for Rome that year), the scene was chosen
to represent the Commercial Treaty of 1786. The original wax model,
for which Flaxman was paid fifteen guineas in 1787, is now in
the Burlaston Wedgewood museum.
