BORGHESE
VASES AND PEDESTALS were adaptations of an antique marble vase
formerly in the possession of the Borghese family in Rome and
now in the Louvre. The vases, the largest Josiah Wedgewood ever
made were originally modelled by John de Vaere, were completed
by John Flaxman in Rome in 1788.The Borghese Vase now resides
in the Louvre and were regarded by 18th century critics as one
of the finest ancient marble vases in existence. The copies here
closely followed the relief but not the form of the original.
