A resurgence of interest in Wedgwood pottery ocurred in the 1860's, some 70 years after Josiah Wedgwood's death. A new generation of middle-class collectors emerged at this time with the publication of a number of books on the subject. Lever seems to have been converted quite suddenly to the importance of Wedgwood by the lavish sale of Lord Tweedmouth's collection in 1905. A leading dealer of the time, Frederick Rathbone advised on this and subsequent acquisitions.
