'New Sculpture' was a movement that brought a new poetic realism into British Sculpture with a wider range of techniques, of subject-matter and of pose. Onslow Ford (1852-1901) and WiIliam Goscombe John (1860 -1952) were friends of Lever and were central figures in the new movement. Lever had a deep commitment to 18th-century classicism and Victorian high art and became 'New Sculpture's' single most important patron. Below we can see the contrast between the 'old' and the 'new', so as to speak.
