The 'Museum' collection comprises several disparate groups of material; the bulk of items can be categorised as ethnographic or Masonic and the rest as  a miscellany comprising the likes of  watches, sundials , keys , constables' truncheons, whalebone staybusks. The ethnographic collection was a symbol , in Lever's eyes, of a parallel between business and philanthropic activities assembled from his world tours between 1892 and 1924. Later in his life, Lever became interested in the principles of Freemasonry, founding a number of lodges in around Port Sunlight and acquired the entire collection of Albert Calvert, an engineer, author and journalist. Calvert, facing charges of defrauding a member of Russian royalty of her jewels, readily sold the comprehensive collection which acquired a special significance for the Lady Lever Art Gallery where Masons frequently met..
