[ VILLAGE ISSUES ] [ HERITAGE CENTRE TO MOVE ]

.

Plans are in the pipeline for a move for the Port Sunlight Heritage Centre. Currently situated in Greendale Road, the move will take the shop window for the Port Sunlight Village Trust to the site of the recently closed Residents Club in KIng George's Drive making it close to the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the jewel in the crown of the Village.

Although the relocation will mean a centralised visitor area closed to one of the main attractions of the Village, the change of use from occasional social club (last used in October 2001) to fully functional office space and heritage shop/centre will mean drastic increase in traffic and visitor movement around the central part of the Village. The existing Heritage Centre building will be utilised as rented office space.

The Port Sunlight Village Trust was set up in April 1998 with three Trustees and Andrew Tonkiss as the Chief Executive Officer - he recently left the post. In recent years extensive modifications have been carried out, to Village properties owned by the Trust to bring them all back in line with stringent Grade II listed regulations under the jurisdiction of the Planning department of the Wirral Borough Council.

The plans for the new Heritage Centre development can be viewed at the Wirral Borough Council website:
