Myself and my family have been planning to move to Port Sunlight.
We have found a house on the market at a reasonable price, but
which needs renovation - new window frames, guttering, new kitchen,
bathroom etc.Can
anyone let me know where to find out about the regulations applying
to renovation work in Port Sunlight? Also, can any residents informally
recommend a local builder who is experienced in working in the
Village
and works to a good standard?

We are a local history group from Bournville, Birmingham and are
planning to visit your beautiful village in June 2003.It would
be wonderful if we could arrange a guided tour and perhaps even
meet up with a like minded group of your residents. As you are
probably aware the Bournville Estate is quite unique - apart from
having Cadbury World - but having myself already made a visit
to you I know that Port Sunlight is very special indeed. Could
you direct me to the best person to make contact with so that
discussions can take place as to how we can make arrangements
for this to happen?

Buckleys ice cream in New Ferry yum. Saturday movies at the Rialto,
cricket on the field at Lower Rd, I can remember the protective
shields comming of the statues at the end of the war and the V-E
street party we had. You darent get caught doing something wrong
as everbody knew each other and your parents would know about
it before you were home. I miss the village even after 33 years
in Canada, mum still lives there (since 1937). We will be home
to see her and the village in 2004 when I retire. Tony Jones

I am organising a Gifted & Talented Summer school for year6
& 7 pupils. We are going to carry out a project on SOAP and
will be visiting Port Sunlight. I would be grateful of any literature
or leaflets etc. that we could look at prior to the village. Also
is there anyone who would be willing to visit the school to talk
either about the village and its history or experiences of working
in the soap industry. I would be grateful for any help.

I am wondering if anyone can direct me to where I might find information
on my great-grandfater, John Fox, who worked, and died, in Port
Sunlight. He died in 1904-5, and left a wife, Matilda, and three
children, Anne(a)(my grandmother) and James and John Fox. Is there
a genealogical center or library in Port Sunlight with death records
and/or church records? Or a cemetery? Any information is appreciated.

Hi - I
would like to find some record of my grandfather Richard EVANS
and family who lived there in period between 1891 and 1902. I
know he was there alone on the 1891 census but he married Elisabeth
Glazebrook in 1891 and they had several children before they moved
to St. Helens about 1902-3. I
would appreciate any information possible, or if you could provide
an address and times I could ask someone to go in person.

My father's family comes from Port Sunlight and I still have an
aunt living there. My grandfather was Jabez (Charlie) Moore and
his wife was Annie. They lived on New Chester Road. My father
was Herbert Moore and he was born in 1916. He married Mona Williams
of Lr. Bebington. Dad was an apprentice printer at Levers and
most of the family (both Moore and Williams) worked there or at
Price's. I spent a few months in the Lux Washability Bureau doing
test washes - I had asked for a laboratory job - in 1961 before
going back to South Africa; we had moved there in 1951.I wonder
if anyone remembers any of my family. I would love to hear from
them if they do.
