HI! I was 'made up' to come across this site. Been in Perth Australia for many years but often think of schooldays at Churchdrive. Yes I fell in the boating lake and my friend Jackie Mac broke her arm falling of the art gallery ledge. Had Mr Evans and Mrs Williams and Mrs Pearce for teachers from about 1971 till 1975. Is Gill Smith out there or Gail Brown? I had my first kiss under the bridge in the dell with Janet Brennan hanging over the top laughing!!

Hello! I'm struggling to complete the BBC History Magazine crossword! The clue is "Tanner of old in soap not Christmas Pudding". The answer has five letters - "E (blank) S (blank) E" I immediately think of Lord Lever whenever I think of soap - can anyone suggest an answer? It's the only unanswered clue!
Many thanks for your time,

What wonderful memories this site brings back. Julia Whitehead, how delighted I am to see that you are still actively involved with the Port Sunlight Players. I hope you remember me, I was musical director in the 1960's
for productions from Wizard of Oz to our Unilever award winning production of Passion Flower, the story of Carmen. What enjoyable times we had. Is Joan Boot still involved ?
It would be lovely to hear from any of the old crowd who may remember me.

I am currently engaged in research into the life and work of the portrait painter Philip de Laszlo (1869-1937). I understand that he painted William Hesketh Lever, Ist Viscount Leverhulme and I am trying to locate the whereabouts of this picture.

Upon reviewing my last posting, regarding any information about my great grandfather - John Farrall and his wife Mary - I noticed that my e-mail address was incomplete. It should read:jfarrall@cox.rr.com. Mr. Farrall died in 1911 and Mary Farrall continued to live at Port Sunlight until 1925. I would appreciate learning any information anyone might have. Thanks.

I am considering relocation of my family to the Liverpool area, and have heard wonderful things
about Port Sunlight as a good community for family.I'm impressed with the site, and would love to hear
from current or past residents about their experience. Most interested in quality of life, shopping, schools,
etc. in the area.
Also, is there a realtor who specializes in the area that I might contact to find current home prices, etc.? Warmest regards, David Lilly

Thank you for an excellent site. We visited Port Sunlight on Whit Monday 2001 after intending to visit for some time. The village exceeded our expectations and gave us a very rewarding day viewing the architecture and ambience. The visit meant even more to us, as we have for many years frequented Rivington Pike and Lord Lever's Chinese Gardens, taking an interest in the history of that area and its founder. We look forward to our next visit. David & Susan McKendrick.

This is a really good site! I went to Church Drive School between 1960 & 1964. I remember being in Mrs. Davies class for 2 years in a row,'cos she moved up to the top year with us. We were all so pleased that we didn't get Mr Harris(?)for the final year! I remember making the Church football team - we played at the Oval in our first game. I played centre half, we won 4-1 and I scored a goal - and Mr. Harris promptly dropped me from the team! I can only remember Gibby(?), Phil, Alex young, from the class of 64', also Keith Bainbridge. We all went to Wirral Grammar I think, in the September, after the dreaded "11 plus"!! I live in New Zealand now, since 1970, but I wish my kids could see the village for real! it was a huge playground for all of us, I didn't realise how great the place was for kids with an imagination, until I left. Anyone who was at Church Drive in that time, I'd love to hear from you, along with most of my rellies who I think still work for Levers (is it still called that?)

As I worked at Lever Bros for 10 years, from 1964 till 1974. I still like to keep an interst in the Village. I now live in Plymouth, but when I get the chance, I like to come back to visit. I remember all the old places. We used to go to the Swimming Bath every day, it was open. Good old days. Glad to see I have found you, on the net.

Hi Keith, Yes i remember the ice cream man, and riding on the back of the coal lorry, playing war games in the allotments, throwing penny bangers around on bonnie night. Remember when we got the tree off the sunlight golf course for the bonfire, and got chased by the greensman, we ran off and Phil Martin jumped into a bed of nettles trying to get away. What does the song say, Those were the days We had Bella for a long time, she finally died of old age in 1992.

I was surfing the web searching for anything on Port Sunlight where I lived until I emigrated to Canada - and WOW! I found this whole web page and all this amazing stuff about the village. I was particularly thrilled to read the messages from someone I went to both Church Drive and West Kirby Girls School - PAT TARR - Pat, are you the Pat Tarr I went to West Kirby with - Pat Murray was a friend of ours. I did try to contact you at the E-Mail you left but it came back to me "undeliverable" - panda@aol.com. If you are reading this please get back to me and we can reminisce. The guy who left the notes about Mr. Byron - that's a long long time ago - but, hey, how about "Bummer" Hughes - is there anyone out there who remembers him. He was head master and I don't have to tell you why he was called that, if you were there!!! I recognized all the names on the messages I read - there was one lady who said she worked packing soap - did you work with my dad in No.3 Soapery? His name was Claude Williams and he was a supervisor. I particularly noticed that most of the people who sent messages were spread out all over the world. Does this say something about Port Sunlight? - or just about us!!!!

I grew up in P/S from 1950 to 1976 before settling in Perth Australia. I was surprised to see changes in the village when I returned in 1996 for a holiday, I still have many friends and relatives in the area, and it was nice to come across this website. I shall now look forward to checking the discussion board out regularly.
